This week I’ve been stuck inside as a much-needed deluge poured down on our rain-starved state for four days straight. Fortunately Artist Daughter and I decided to do some hiking and creating in a natural setting the day before the rain moved in.
Write Anywhere #31: Nature Center
We drove out to the Mary K. Oxley Nature Center with our cameras, notebooks, and good walking shoes ready for an adventure. The woods were still in indecision as to whether they would stay in winter’s dormancy or allow spring to start.
After getting a muddy start through several hiking paths we reached Blackbird Marsh. We made ourselves comfy on the boardwalk. Daughter sketched and I wrote as fields of dead cattail rustled in the wind.
On our way back I spotted someone watching us.
They kept their eyes on us while we kept our cameras on them, then when they tired of our paparazzi ways, faded into the woods.
For the price of a twenty minute drive Artist Daughter and I were both creatively refreshed.
Where did you write this week?
Question: Do you have a nature center/preserve in your area? Have you ever written there?
